‘Raise a fork for a great cause’

Fourth annual Old Settler Spaghetti Dinner Saturday

Folks are once again asked to “Raise a fork for a great cause” at the fourth annual Old Settlers Spaghetti Dinner. Set on the one every four years date of Leap Day 2020, the event runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at CJ’s Bar and Grill, 105 E. Marion St.

The annual dinner is a fundraiser for Monroe’s Old Settlers celebration in early August.

“Old Settlers Committee plans and puts it all together,” organizer Alicia Hansen said. “We have a great turnout typically. It has definitely increased year by year.”

With spaghetti,
lasagna, salad, breadsticks and dessert on the menu, adults can get their fill of the Italian favorite for $10 while kids 10 and under are $6 each. The committee, who also donates the food, cooks it and serve as waiters for the event, as well.

All funds raised will go toward the community-wide celebration which is in its 134th year.

“We consistently get feedback that the annual old settlers event is a success. So bringing the community out for these events in the off season helps local business as well the old settlers committee,” Hansen said.

The committee will continue to push to raise money for Old Settlers at the Frosty Nose, Cold Toes 5K sponsored by Jersey Freeze planned for March 28 and at the fifth annual barbecue and car show in June.

Work is also underway planning Old Settlers, which is about six months away and 100 percent of the funds raised will go toward the event.
