Newton Park Centre receives $2.7 million donation

Receiving $2.7 million, the largest donation ever from a single donor, will help Newton Park Centre accomplish a lot including continuing the WesleyLife Promise which helps keep residents in their communities.

The money, which came from an anonymous donor, is the largest amount ever donated to Park Centre and the second-largest ever to WesleyLife. Along with Newton’s Park Centre, WesleyLife opperates in 10 other communities.

“This gift was directed specifically for Park Centre in Newton,” WesleyLife Vice President of Marketing and Sales Sally Groome said.

Groome said the donation will help continue the WesleyLife Promise of vowing to help keep residents in their communities in the event their financial resources were to run out due to a varying number of circumstances.

“The WesleyLife Promise is really what makes us as an organization unique,” Groome said.

A lot of times, Groome said, residents have been living in their communities for an extended period of time, even more than a decade, but due to circumstances such as medical expenses or other factors that take a toll on their finances, it leaves them without funds.

“Even when an individual or a couple feels they have planned well, saved and are prepared, some things aren’t able to be planned or prepared for,” Groome said.

The donation will be split into two areas of the WesleyLife Promise. The first will have $2 million go into a permanent endowment. The second sees $700,000 directed towards immediate assistance.

“We feel so blessed ... We see it as a recognition of the important work we do and our commitment to serving our residents,” Groome said.

The impact this gift will make on the residents of the Newton Park Centre will be not only in the immediate future but well into the future for residents. It is
something not only WesleyLife staff but also Park Centre staff are appreciative of.

“We are deeply appreciative of the gift that this individual was willing to provide to us and we thank them with all of our heart,” Groome said. “I know that I say that speaking for all of the residents of Park Centre.”
