Kick the winter blues at Muse

As the cold weather continues to drag on, Newton Main Street and Muse Wine Bar are teaming up to provide an event where Jasper County residents can come and beat the winter blues over a class of wine. The Wine About Winter event will allow for people to come enjoy Muse Wine bar, located on the first floor of Hotel Maytag, with one another from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

“Winter has kept everybody cooped up ... It is just really getting people out,” Newton Main Street Executive Director Erin Yeager said.

The event will feature a variety of wine along with other menu items. It is also a great venue for people to socialize and learn a little more about wine. Plus, there is an added bonus for a select few.

“(The) first 15 people get a stemless wine glass,” Yeager said.

Not only does this event give those who may not be familiar with wine an opportunity to see what it’s about but Yeager said it also highlights the importance of shopping local. In this case, Muse Wine Bar is a relatively new business in the community.

“You want to support local ... If we don’t support local then they are going to go somewhere else,” Yeager said.

Newton Main Street will look to continue this event until the cold weather gives way to spring’s flowers. If people are unable to make it out to this Wine About Winter there is a possibility for another.

“We are hoping to have another Wine About Winter in March,” Yeager said.

Owner of Muse Andy Breuer will be on hand at various times and may even help those who may be wine novice’s find a wine that suits them. Breuer said there will also be live music starting at 6 p.m., as well.

“I’m excited for it. I like having a chance to get a new set of customers in and a different set of customers,” Breuer said.

Whether you are a wine connoisseur or have never had a sip in your life, anyone can come together under the common complaint of cold weather and drinking one of the many wines available at Muse.

“Life is too short not to try something new ... The wine bar is for everybody,” Yeager said.
