Moo’s BBQ is open (kind of)

Moo’s BBQ has finally reopened.

Well, kind of.

The Newton barbecue joint is operating on a limited menu after being forced to close when a driver hit the building in November 2019.

Owner Jeremy Biondi said not everything on menu can be served presently because of equipment needs. The limited setup inside of the restaurant’s kitchen prevents cooks from serving burgers or fried food, for instance.

Although Moo’s can’t serve some of its staples, it is still able to sell some of its smoked menu items, like the award-winning ribs. Customers have been steadily returning to the restaurant, and ribs have been especially popular.

“We can only smoke 50 racks of ribs, and we sold out in two-and-a-half hours,” Biondi said.

Staff are unsure of an exact time when the regular menu items will return. Biondi hopes Moo's will have a full menu by mid-March, but that can't be
guaranteed. Luckily, the response and patience from regular customers have been positive.

“We have had great community support,” Biondi said.

There is a possibility for Moo’s to be closed again for a brief time while the new equipment is installed. After that Biondi said the rest of the equipment needs to get tested inside the building and either repaired or replaced.

“We might be closed for a week or we might close like a Monday and Tuesday,” Biondi said.

Staff have stuck by Moo’s through the process as well, Biondi said.

“My employees, they are like family ... They all stayed with us. They came in on a Saturday and we spent all day long cleaning this place,” Biondi said.

Even though Moo’s has only been open for a short time – almost two weeks now – there have been plenty of customers new and old to come through the doors in search of their BBQ fixes. The community is plenty excited to have Moo’s open, even if it is a limited menu.

“We are happy they are back open ... We have been here twice. We were here the first day they opened back up,” Dennis Koon, of Newton, said.

Moo’s is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Moo’s Facebook page also offers updates and daily specials.
