Baxter boys bow out against Ogden

MADRID — Senior Carter Nelsen tallied a double-double in his final prep game, but Baxter’s boys’ basketball team couldn’t hold a halftime lead against Ogden on Thursday night.

The Bolts led by three at halftime and by five after three quarters, but the Bulldogs rallied for a 47-43 win in Class 1A District 12 action.

Baxter led 21-18 at halftime and 31-26 after three quarters but Ogden outscored the Bolts 21-12 in the fourth to complete the comeback.

The Bolts (15-7) got 20 points and 16 rebounds from Nelsen. Senior Cole Damman also had 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists, sophomore Rory Heer finished with seven points. three rebounds and two assists and junior Kael Johnston added five rebounds and four steals.

Freshman Cody Damman scored five points, grabbed five boards and dished out three assists. The Bolts turned it over 20 times and shot 34 percent from the floor and 4-of-21 from 3-point range.

Baxter used only five players in the game.

Ogden (9-13) got 14 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four blocks from Griffin Diggs and eight points, five rebounds and five steals from Kolby Moorman. Kaleb Badker also scored 12 points.

The Bulldogs advance to play top-seeded Madrid in the district semifinals at 8 p.m. on Tuesday in Madrid.
