Business that started for the Colfax-Mingo School District earlier this school year is beginning to take shape in the new year. An update on progress made in finding an operations and maintenance director along with the results of a recent change in one-way traffic near the elementary school was given to the school board at the January meeting Monday.

In November, the board discussed posting the operations and maintenance director position. Since that time, applications have been submitted to the school and superintendent Erik Anderson told the board where they were in the hiring process.

“As of Friday we now have four applicants,” Anderson said.

A firm timeline was not set for the interview process but Anderson said he would like to start sooner than later.

“At least a couple that look very viable and I don’t know that we need to wait until the end of January for it we may start setting up interviews a little bit earlier to at least start having a couple of those,” Anderson said.

Along with Anderson, school administration will be involved in the interview process. No interview dates have been set and there is no planned starting date for any potential candidates. He emphasized they want to make sure they find the right person for the job.

“As soon as we can get it finished and get the right person in here, we will,” Anderson said.

A change traffic flow change that took place earlier this year at the elementary school was reviewed by the board after being in place for several months. In an agreement between the school and City of Colfax, the direction of one-way traffic near the school was changed to allow for a safer drop off and pick up time.

“It took a couple of days of adjustment,” Anderson said.

Colfax-Mingo Elementary Principle Brian Summy added, “It’s so nice not having cars intermixing with buses that’s just a big stress.”
