Berkey’s big night sends C-M boys to win over Spartans

MAXWELL — Brady Berkey scored 33 points, Cole Bracewell buried five 3-pointers and Colfax-Mingo’s boys’ basketball team scored a 73-59 non-conference road victory over Collins-Maxwell on Jan. 9.

Berkey was 10-of-13 from the floor and 12-of-12 from the free-throw line. He also finished with eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.

The Tigerhawks led 21-10 after one quarter, were up 42-23 at halftime and took a 52-37 lead into the final quarter.

Bracewell finished with 17 points, six boards, two assists and two steals and Jacob Nichols added 10 points and six rebounds.

Zach Steenhoek finished with eight points, four assists and four steals. David Rague tallied three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Mason Markley finished with 20 points to lead Collins-Maxwell (4-5).

Colfax-Mingo played at Belle Plaine on Jan. 14. The Tigerhawks host Tri-County at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 in Colfax.

Keota 82, Colfax-Mingo 45

Berkey finished with 15 points, but Colfax-Mingo struggled from the floor during an 82-45 loss to Keota on Jan. 7.

The Tigerhawks (6-2 overall, 5-2 in SICL games) connected on only 31 percent from the floor and were 3-of-27 from 3-point range.

Berkey added six assists and five rebounds. Nichols had 12 points and six rebounds and Rague chipped in seven points, five rebounds and two assists. Bracewell scored four points.

Keota improved to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in league play.
