Shoot the Moon Soccer Champs

Soccer is sometimes a forgotten sport. This team of players is aiming to change that. Starting at age three and four, these players have loved to play soccer and exert themselves to be better. The team has faced tough loss and heartbreak, as well as great success. They have had a winning record for the last five years including many appearances at the Iowa Summer Games in Ames, always short of the gold.

The team set a goal for this season to not allow a goal for the opposing team. The team added another goal once they got word they were going to play a tournament. That goal was, go for the gold.

A Shoot the Moon Tournament was held in October in Adel. Oct. 25, was victorious with a double win. On Oct. 26, afternoon’s game was very well matched and ended with a tie (1-1). Thinking they were done, the team went in separate directions to fuel up. A few minutes later, they received word there was going to be a “shoot out” to go to the championship round. The energy of the team and parents changed. They were no longer feeling defeated, yet again, but hopeful to completing the second goal — Go For The Gold.

The “shoot out” was exhilarating. It was comprised of five shooters and one goalie per team. The goalie came up with the stop on the eighth shot of the shoot out and the center forward sunk his shot to take it to the championship game. The championship game was rough, but speed and agility got them through. With a final score of 2-1 against Iowa Rush, a second goal was achieved. The team got the gold.

This team has a love for the game of soccer, are a true team with heart, passion and strive. They have recently taken a new path and will become a select team for Iowa Storm Soccer and truly are excited about this decision. Both players and parents are one soccer family. With a new path starting this coming Spring, comes extra expenses.
