Nine Tigerhawks earn all-district recognition

Colfax-Mingo’s football team was led by its offense this season.

The Tigerhawks were one of the best offenses in Class 1A District 7 and seven Colfax-Mingo players were recognized from that side of the ball.

Two Tigerhawk defensive players also were recognized as nine total players earned all-district honors.

The nine players recognized include senior quarterback Brady Berkey, senior wide receivers Trystin Ross and Andrew Meinhart, senior offensive lineman Andres Villegas, senior linebacker Jesse Allen, junior wide receiver Zach Steenhoek, junior offensive lineman Andrew Gorman, sophomore offensive lineman Grant Alexander and sophomore linebacker Justin Myers.

Berkey, Ross and Villegas were all first-team selections, Steenhoek, Alexander and Allen were second-team picks and Gorman, Meinhart and Myers were honorable mention choices.

Berkey was the first-team quarterback in 1A District 7. He ranked fifth in 1A with 1,802 passing yards and tied for sixth with 19 touchdown passes. He threw seven interceptions, rushed for 242 yards and scored five rushing TDs.

In district games, Berkey threw for 858 yards, seven touchdowns and two picks. He also rushed for 37 yards.

Ross was one of the top receivers in 1A this season. He led 1A with 81 catches, tied for first with 14 TDs and was fifth with 879 receiving yards. Ross also rushed three times for 32 yards.

In district games, Ross caught 46 passes for 433 yards and five TDs. He also rushed for 36 yards on two carries.

Villegas, Alexander and Gorman were all a big part of the Tigerhawks gaining 3,218 total yards, which ranked second in the district. The Tigerhawks had 37 touchdowns, which was the third most in the district. Colfax-Mingo also averaged 29.33 points per game.

Steenhoek was a second-team receiver after catching 24 passes for 597 yards and five TDs. Meinhart was honorable mention as a wide receiver after collecting 15 catches for 172 yards.

Steenhoek had 10 catches for 264 yards and a TD in district play. Meinhart collected eight passes for 76 yards in his district games.

Allen was a second-team linebacker after tallying 47 tackles, seven tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries. In district play, Allen had 25.5 tackles, five tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

Myers was a honorable mention selection at linebacker after collecting 42.5 tackles, four tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. Myers had 18.5 tackles in district play.
