Famed cartoonist, conservationist Ding Darling brought to life at Neal Smith NWR

PRAIRIE CITY — The Friends of Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge received funding from Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit state affiliate of the National Endowment of the Humanities to host a presentation called “The Art of Conservation: A visit with Ding Darling” by actor Tom Milligan at 2 p.m. Sunday at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge in Prairie City. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa’s communities.

This historical presentation by actor Tom Milligan brings to life Ding Darling, Iowa resident, the two-time Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist, creator of the “Duck Stamp Program” and founder of the National Wildlife Federation. Milligan will appear in character, share stories with the audience and answer questions as Ding Darling would have.

The event is free and open to the public. If you are a person with a disability who requires special assistance, call 515-994-3400 in advance.
