Colfax city council looks to revamp Quarry Springs Park

The City of Colfax is potentially looking to grant funding to complete improvements at Quarry Springs Park. The Colfax City Council met Monday for its regular monthly meeting to discuss possible changes to the park.

The city is looking to apply for a Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) grant to fund additions at Quarry Springs. Among the items that would be added are a septic tank, shower houses and a well.

“We have got ambitious plans to turn that into a regional park and that is not one big step it is lots of little steps,” Colfax City Administrator Wade Wagoner said. “Anytime that you can take a step towards your plan and have a grant help pay for it that’s huge.”

The hope is that if the city were to receive the grant they would be able to do these additions to the park and that in the future the upgrades would have the potential to hold slots for recreational vehicles for camping.

“It’s a beautiful park and the RV slots we would charge for,” Wagoner said.

Also at the park, the council approved a resolution declaring the need for emergency repairs at Quarry Springs after damage occurred on a couple of the buildings during the summer wind storm.

In other business:

• There was a resolution that the city would buy a 2020 Chevy Tahoe for the Colfax Police Department at the cost of $34,305. The resolution passed its first reading.

• There was a resolution that dealt with the building of a shelter in Quarry Springs Park. The resolution involved the location of the building.

• In public safety, there were resolutions dealing with the agreement with the volunteer fire department and approving of a reserve officer.

• In old business, Ordinance 629 dealing with the city treasurer passed its final reading and was enacted and ordinance 630 which amended the minimum housing code passed its final reading and was enacted.
