Department

• Eric J. Padron, 21, of Marshalltown, was charged with public intoxication at 10:21 p.m. July 25 in the 700 block of West Seventh Street South. According to the Newton Police Department, Padron was standing in the front yard of the residence trying to pick up his two-year-old and four-month-old children. When police made contact, they allegedly smelled alcohol on him and Padron admitted to drinking three tall boys. Padron refused to take a sobriety test and also refused to leave the property. Police said his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Padron submitted to a preliminary breath test which indicated a .132 and Padron has a prior conviction for public intoxication. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Alexis F. Hawker, 18, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft, trespassing and possession of alcohol underage from an incident that occurred at 1:39 p.m. July 23 in the 1500 block of First Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, Hawker was caught stealing at the Hy-Vee on First Avenue East and was detained and brought back to the store office. A store employee told police that Hawker had concealed items in a bag and possibly on her person. Police looked in the bag and asked Hawker to take out the items. She removed small bottles of alcohol, food and toiletry items. Police then asked her if she had any items on her person and she removed a bottle of shampoo she tucked into her pants. The total amount of the merchandise was $54.84. Hawker has been banned from the store and served a no trespass order.

• Melissa J. Whitehead, 38, of Newton, arrested at 8:05 p.m. July 26 in the 1100 block of First Avenue East on a Jasper County warrant for probation violation, original charges of third and fourth-degree theft. Taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Qixx K. Kautzer, 20, of Dunkerton, was arrested at 2:31 a.m. July 27 at First Avenue East and East Fourth Street on a Jasper County warrant for fingerprinting. Taken to the Jasper County Jail.
