Barron V. Jones passed away Tuesday evening, July 16, 2019, at his home at Newton Village.

There will be a private family funeral service and burial for Barron at Union Cemetery. The Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Newton Village, Barron’s family or to a charity of your choosing.

Barron V. Jones, 94, the son of John A. and Laura (Barron) Jones, was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Ira. He graduated from school in Newton and enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on the USS Bangust. He was employed by the Maytag Company in Newton, retiring after more than 45 years of service.

On Sept. 4, 1948, Barron was united in marriage with Mary Ann Bishop at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. He had devoted his life to his children and family. He was a Life Member of the Newton VFW Post #1655 and the Elks Club and a member of the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and building, he built his home and remodeled it many times over the years. He enjoyed finishing and restoring antique furniture, gardening, sharing the vegetables with friends and family, watching and following the Iowa Hawkeyes in football and basketball, loved orchids and going to Minnesota fishing.

Barron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Ann on Feb. 25, 2006; his step-mother, Marie Jones; his brothers and sister, Alfred Jones, Harlene Ettelson, Jerry Brown and Jack Jones; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Edith Bishop.

Those left to honor Barron’s memory include his daughter, Jan (John R.) Booth of Newton; granddaughter, Darci (Mike) Kidd of Dallas Center; great-grandchildren, Delaney, Isabel, Rowan and Jack Kidd; granddaughter, Jori Booth (Aaron); great-granddaughter, Ellie Booth; grandson, Adam (McKena) Booth of Ankeny; great-grandsons, Carson and Braden Booth; his son, Scott V. (Marisa) Jones of Ames; grandsons, Eric and Marcus Jones; his nephew, Fred (Phyllis) Jones of Edna, Texas; niece, Carol Hammon of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and his many friends.
