Baxter baseball edged by Hudson in district semifinals

HUDSON — Baxter’s baseball team pushed host Hudson to extra innings, but the Bolts lost 4-3 in eight innings during Class 1A District 11 semifinal action on Tuesday night.

Baxter built a 3-0 lead, but Hudson rallied with three runs in the fifth and then won it with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Bolts (7-17) scored twice in the first inning. Cole Damman, Rory Heer, Carter Nelsen and Ian Thomson all singled and Derrick Klemme doubled in the frame.

Baxter’s third run came in the top of the third. Heer, Nelsen and Klemme all singled and then Heer scored on Thomson’s sacrifice fly.

Hudson (14-12) faces No. 6 Don Bosco in the district championship game at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Hudson. Don Bosco eliminated Grundy Center 13-1 in five innings.
