• Dale B. Holliday, 45, of Iowa Park, Texas was charged with operating while under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia at approximately midnight July 15 in the 4000 block of South 22nd Avenue East. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a call about a male allegedly operating a maroon truck while drunk. Police arrived and found the truck parked and made contact with the reporting party who said Holliday was allegedly stumbling and laughing nonstop and appeared under the influence. Police made contact with Holliday and observed him to have bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled of alcohol. Holliday admitted to drinking at least six beers that night and trying to drive his vehicle. Holliday agreed to a standard field sobriety test. Holliday failed two test but refused to do the one leg stand or provide a breath sample. While Holliday was being arrested, police searched his person and found a glass pipe with residue in Holliday’s back left pocket. Holliday said he forgot the pipe was in his pocket. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Anthony L. Fairchild, 53, of Coal Valley, Ill. was charged with public intoxication at approximately 10:30 p.m. July 11 in the 100 block of East 17th Street North. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a welfare check at the Newton Laundromat of a male reportedly sleeping in his car. Officers arrived and found Fairchild sleeping in his car and he admitted to drinking whiskey. Officers observed Fairchild had bloodshot eyes and struggled completing sentences. Fairchild denied operating the vehicle and said he would not drive anymore. While speaking with the officers Fairchild exited the vehicle and walked inside the laundromat and into the bathroom. Fairchild provided a preliminary breath test which registered at 0.217. Fairchild was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
