NFD to begin fire hydrant testing

The Newton Fire Department will begin testing fire hydrants within the Newton city limits over the next several weeks.

This week, the NFD will begin with District 2 which includes hydrants on the East Side of First Street up to East Eighth street North. There are more than 100 hydrants to test, so the testing will be taking place over the next couple weeks.

After the testing is completed in the first location, the NFD will begin moving both north and south of First Avenue. Fire officials will release more information as they move to different hydrants throughout the city.
