The Jasper County Round Up and Rodeo is right around the corner for all the cowboys and cowgirls in Jasper County. This year, the Round Up will have a boxing theme with the flyers having a picture of Ty Carlson and a picture of a bull on the other side for the memorial bull ride.

“It is kind of doing the boxing flyer, you know one versus the other” Alan Guy, Jasper County Fair committee member said.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12 and for children 5 and under admission is free with the gates opening up at 5 p.m. June 22.

This will be the second year the Ty Carlson Memorial Rodeo will be involved. The rodeo raises money to go into a scholarship named in Carlson’s honor.

“The Carlson family was thrilled with the initial inaugural year … We have welcomed them with open arms. They have been fantastic to work with,” Guy said.

There will be the always cute Barnyard Babies contest with registration at 4 p.m. and the contest starting at 4:30 p.m. The age groups range from 0-6 months for the Little Mr. Tractor and Little Ms. Sweet Pea, up to the 5-year-old Little King and Little Queen. For the girls only, there will be the 6- to 8-year-old Jr. Jasper County Fair Princess and the 9- to 11-year-old Jr. Jasper County Fair Queen.

At 7 p.m., the 4th Annual Jasper County Fair Rodeo will get underway. It will look much like the rodeos of the past with bulls, broncs and barrel racing.

“For the most part, we are going to stick with a rough stock style rodeo … It seemed to have worked before so we aren’t going to stray too far from that,” Guy said

The rodeo will also have a brief preview of mutton busting. The crowd will get a sneak peak of the area favorite to see if a little cowboy or cowgirl might be interested in participating in the main event during the fair.

“The plan is to do kind of a mutton busting preview because we have it at the fair,” Guy said.

While the fair can sometimes be seen as just cows and pigs, it means so much more to the people of Jasper County.

“We want to showcase our youth 4-H and FFA members. We want to give them a platform to really show what it is they work so hard for,” Guy said.

The rodeo portion of the Round Up is surrounded by nothing but excitement.

“They are excited to have it back and they are excited for the memorial part of it,” stock contractor Brad Duckworth said.

For those of you who might be wondering if the rodeo is going to be action packed, there’s no need to worry.

“It will be a great night, with a lot of non-stop bucking action. The cowboys and cowgirls will be at the top of their game” Duckworth said.
