Hyde honored with first-place sports columnists award at INA

NDN, weekly newspapers place in statewide contest

DES MOINES — The Iowa Newspaper Association honored Newton Daily News sports reporter Troy Hyde with best sports columnist for his commentary in the Prairie City News Friday at the association’s awards banquet during the INA 2019 Convention and Trade Show, held at the Des Moines Marriott Hotel. The Newton Daily News and Jasper County Tribune also placed in various categories of the 2019 Iowa Better Newspaper Contests.

ABOUT US: The Newton Daily News publishes five days a week and our weekly publications include the Prairie City News, Jasper County Tribune and Monroe Legacy. All four newspapers are part of Illinois-based Shaw Media.

ENTRY CLASS DIVISIONS: Prairie City News, Jasper County Tribune and Monroe Legacy belong to Weekly Class 1 for newspapers with 1,001 circulations and under. Newton Daily News belongs to Daily Class 1 for newspapers circulation under 10,000.

WHO JUDGES? The 2019 Iowa Better Newspaper Contests were judged by members of the Hoosier State Press Association in Indiana.

WINS FOR NDN: Best Special Section-Editorial, second place; Coverage of Education, third place; Best Front Page, third place.

WINS FOR PCN: Master Columnist-Dana King, third place; Best Front Page, third place; Best Sports Section, third place.

WINS FOR JCT: Best Sports Feature Photo-Troy Hyde, second place.
