Colfax man remains at-large following vehicle theft

Eight law enforcement entities respond

Authorities are still searching for a Colfax man accused of playing role in a vehicle theft from the Red Rock Marina Wednesday.

Charles W. Cheek III, 48, is believed to be the driver of the vehicle involved in the theft.

Officers were called about a motor vehicle theft in Marion County at 1:05 p.m.and identified a red Dodge Ram on cameras. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office then received a call of a suspicious red Dodge Ram truck at storage united located at Highway 14 and Highway F-62 and responded to the scene at 1:40 p.m.

Twenty minutes later, a Jasper County deputy came across the suspicious vehicle in Colfax and attempted to stop it. A passenger exited the vehicle and was taken into custody.

He was identified as Chad Cheek, 43, of Colfax.

The driver, who is believed to be Charles Cheek, eluded police and later abandoned his vehicle in Colfax. The stolen vehicle was recovered in rural Jasper County.

Both suspects have multiple charges out of Marion County. If you have any information about the location of Charles Cheek, authorities ask you to contact the Marion County Sheriff's Office at 641-828-2220. The Monroe Police Department, Prairie City Police Department, Colfax Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa State Patrol Aircraft unit and MINE Task Force also assisted.
