Brice Lee “Spanky” Leonard, 33, of Baxter, formerly of Colfax, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, in Greenfield, Ind.

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 305 E. Howard St. in Colfax, with Father William Reynolds and Deacon Joe Dvorak officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with a public vigil service at 8 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Brice L. Leonard Memorial Fund. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the funeral mass.

The son of Terry M. and Erlene K. Schwienebart, Brice was born Feb. 14, 1977, in Newton, Iowa. He was a graduate of Colfax-Mingo High School in 1995, and he attended Iowa State University. On Oct. 25, 2008, Brice was united in marriage to Rachel Lee Jackson in Colfax.

Brice was the owner of Diversified Ag Inputs, LLC, Leonard Club Lambs and the family farm. He received his American Farmer Degree in 1997 and his Iowa Farmer Degree in 1996. He was the treasurer of the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement, vice-president of the Jasper County Fair Board and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax, 1st Degree Knights of Columbus in Colfax, Iowa, All Breeds Sheep Council and the Iowa Sheep Industry Association. He was a past member of the Jasper County 4-H Council, ISU Block and Bridle and he was the 1996-1997 FFA South Central vice president.

Brice had lived in rural Baxter for nine years and grew up in Colfax.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel of Baxter; parents, Terry and Erlene Leonard of Colfax; a brother, Eric (Ann) Leonard of Newton; his nephew, Benjamin Leonard of Newton; his aunt, Kay Reardon of Mesa, Ariz.; his great-aunt, Maurine Hesser of Aurora, Colo.; his cousin, Cody Reardon of Mesa, Ariz.; his mother-in-law, Sam Jackson, and her friend, Scott Bishop, both of Rhodes; and his godson, Max Petzenhauser of Roland, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Orville and Avis Leonard, and maternal grandparents, Earl and Allene Schwienebart.
