A skate/walk benefit in memory of Brendan O’Brien, who was killed in a pedes-trian-vehicle accident on April 23, took place Saturday morning at Maytag Park. About two dozen skaters from Newton and Des Moines participated in the event, which featured a 10-lap skate/walk around the park. Shirts with “Team Brendan” were sold, and organizer Gary Hussey said the event raised several hundred dollars for the family.
