You’ve made the decision to sell your home. Now what?
To sell quickly and get the highest price possible, it’s worth your while to stage your home.
That means making it look move-in ready, according to Re/Max Real Estate’s blog. Decorating in neutral colors appeals to the largest group of potential home buyers.
Removing clutter is key, especially any personal items like family photos, because buyers want to be able to envision themselves in your home. Box up items, donate what you don’t plan to take with you when you move, and keep rooms clean and tidy. Keep furniture to a minimum to make rooms look bigger, removing broken and worn pieces. Unloading closets will make your home look more spacious.
Make sure your home is clean. Dust, wash walls and floors, and pay particular attention to the kitchen. If it’s just too much, hire a professional cleaning service. Remove pets from the main part of the house.
The smell of a freshly baked pie wafting through the air, pot pourri or fresh flowers gives a warm, welcoming feel to house hunters. Light background music doesn’t hurt either, adds Re/Max.
How is the outside of your house, which is the first impression for any homebuyer? Power wash the walls, if necessary, repair broken gutters and windows. Paint trim.
De-clutter the yard, as well. Old cars, garbage and other items will send potential buyers the other way. Make sure the lawn is mowed and dead plants and weeds are removed. If you have a patio or deck make sure it is in good repair, clean and freshly stained. Set out a few pieces of outdoor furniture and some potted plants. If you have outbuildings, organize or remove contents and make sure the structures are in good repair, says Re/Max.
