After an injury or a physical event, such as a stroke or heart attack, many patients need additional rehabilitative care before being able to return home. The goal of patient rehabilitation is to restore, to the highest degree possible, the functional capabilities that are necessary for a patient to continue to safely recover at home and to return to normal daily activities.
Newton Health Care Center, a 65-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, offers a variety of post-hospitalization options, including long-term care, short-term skilled care, and therapy services, both inpatient and outpatient. Outpatient rehabilitation is available to patients who are well enough to return home, but need additional therapy so their condition continues to improve.
Newton Health Care’s outpatient rehabilitation program includes physical, speech, and occupational therapies that are designed for each individual patient. Physical therapy helps patients regain strength, motor control, balance, and range of motion. Speech therapy allows patients to regain or strengthen their ability to communicate easily by working on articulation, pitch, fluency, and volume, and assists patients with voice disorders, memory disorders, and swallowing difficulties. Speech therapy improves the safety and quality of life for patients affected by stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, ALS, and other similar disorders.
Occupational therapy helps patients with daily living activities, such as personal hygiene, food preparation, getting dressed, taking medications, and household management. Additional outpatient rehabilitation therapy services are available for patients with neurological disorders, spinal injuries, and sports injuries, and also offers solutions for pain management.
“Many of our patients improve to the point where they can safely move back home,” said Katie Kuhn, Community Liaison Director for Newton Health Care Center. “We offer rehabilitation services on an outpatient basis so our patients can continue to improve their ability to function independently.” For more information, please contact:
