First Presbyterian Church will be hosting a series of discussions based on the Civil Conversations Series of radio programs from “On Being.” Formerly titled “Speaking of Faith,” the program features host and journalist Krista Tippett conducting interviews with a broad spectrum of guests from various faith traditions and other perspectives.

“On Being” has undertaken a project promoting dialogue among people representing opposing sides of some of the most volatile issues in our churches and in the larger culture. The divides in our society today not only run very deep – they have too often exhibited rancor, incivility, dishonesty, cynicism, and even hatred. Christians have not been immune to these failings.

These “civil conversations” offer an alternative model – true dialogue. They feature individuals committed to their point of view, and equally committed to respecting, valuing, and honestly engaging with people who disagree. Topics include same-sex marriage, abortion, the church and politics, and bridging political divides.
