Entrepreneurs finish recent Fast Trac class

On March 8, area entrepreneurs gathered at the Newton DMACC campus to graduate from the 8-week Fast Trac New Venture class.

The program — offered through a partnership of the Newton Development Corporation, Jasper County Economic Development Corporation, DMACC, UNI Regional Business Center, Black Hills Energy Foundation and SCORE — is a hands-on business development program designed to help entrepreneurs hone skills needed to create, manage and grow a successful business.

“Fast Trac provides very useful information for start-up through established businesses,” Fast Trac graduate Liz Dodd said. “(It) motivates class members to push and meet new challenges and plan to grow and develop layers of your business. To think beyond the norm.”

Participants focused on each aspect of their business concept, identified areas that need reinforcing, established foundations and worked on business plans to successfully launch or grow their businesses. They were challenged to think critically, practice decision-making skills and ensure all aspects of their business are aligned for long-term sustainability and growth. Participants benefited from non-traditional learning methods and opportunities to network with business peers, business coaches and guest speakers.

“The insights by the class are invaluable for anyone considering starting their own business,” graduate Laurel White-Jackson said. “Use the resource and harness your competitive advantage; ultimately your customers and your business will benefit.”

Lisa Gomez participated in the current class and touted it for helping her determine whether to pursue future business goals.

“The experience was very informative, and I would encourage all future entrepreneurs to attend this workshop,” she said.
