‘The Lion King’ hits the stage “The Lion King” is under way at the Civic Center in Des Moines. Shows run now through Jan. 24. The YMCA is kicking off the Ultimate Fitness Challenge this weekend, giving local residents a chance to make good on some New Year’s resolutions. The Ultimate Fitness Challenge begins Saturday with the initial assessments at 7 a.m. in the small gym at the Newton YMCA. The challenge is a 12-week program with intense body sculpting workout. There are three major components to the program including nutrition, cardio and resistance training. Warm up from the blistering cold weather with some faith-based rock and a warm cup o’ joe. The band features Matt Meredith, Ben McClurg, Brandon Hills, Danae Patterson, Tiffany Larson and Joe Kempen.
It might not be the most “fun” activity but donating blood at the Prairie City & Monroe Community Blood Drive will give the gift of life. The drive is scheduled from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church located at 407 N. Monroe St. in Monroe. Eligible donors must be at least 16 years of age, be in general good health and weigh at least 120 pounds.
Area grapplers will go head to head as PCM hosts its annual wrestling tournament Saturday in Monroe. With action starting at 9:15 a.m., the Mustangs will be joined by area teams Lynnville-Sully and Newton’s junior varsity squad. PCM is led by captains Bryce Wignall and Aaron Peter. |
