Annual Christmas Walk set for Dec. 13
The 14th Annual Christmas Walk presented by eight downtown Newton churches is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 13, beginning at 3 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and concluding at the First Lutheran Church with fellowship and refreshments following a service there.
At each church along the way, there will be a reading of Scripture, a prayer and a traditional Christmas carol. The walk usually lasts about two hours, and everyone is invited to attend.
The Christmas Walk schedule is as follows:
• St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. — The Lord’s Prayer, a reading from Isaiah 11:1-9, prayer and “The First Noel.”
• The Salvation Army Citadel, 310 N. Second Ave. E. — A reading from Isaiah 40:1-11, prayer and “Joy to the World.”
• First Presbyterian Church, 220 N. Second Ave. E. — A reading from Isaiah 7:10-15, prayer and “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.”
• First United Methodist Church, 210 N. Second Ave. E. — A reading from Isaiah 9:2-7, prayer and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.”
• United Presbyterian Church, 209 N. Second Ave. E. — A reading from Luke 1:26-38, prayer and “O Come All Ye Faithful.”
• Congregational United Church of Christ, 308 E. Second St. N. — A reading from Luke 1:39-56, prayer and “O Little Town of Bethlehem.”
• First Christian Church (Disciples), 314 E. Second St. N. — A reading from Luke 2-1-20, prayer and “Angels We Have Heard on High.”
• First Lutheran Church, 309 E. Third St. N. — A reading from Matthew 2:1-11, prayer and “We Three Kings” and “Silent Night.”
