Police BlotterNewton Police Department • An 11-year-old Newton boy has been charged with simple assault after authorities responded to a complaint at 2:01 p.m. Nov. 11 at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School of a male student inappropriately touching a female student. The boy was charged for allegedly grabbing the girl’s breast and was referred to Juvenile Court Services. • Mercedes V. Rutherford, 17, of Newton was cited with failure to obey stop sign after traveling west at 10:32 a.m. Nov. 12 on South Fifth Avenue East, entering the intersection at East Third Street South and colliding with a southbound vehicle driven by Carol E. Danley, 51, of Newton, who had the right of way. No one was injured. Damage was estimated at $1,500 to Danley’s vehicle and $1,000 to Rutherford’s vehicle. A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. Comments
