Newton CVB offering new grant programBy Special to the Daily NewsBeginning next year, the Newton Convention & Visitor’s Bureaus will be offering promotional funding grants to local groups selected by the CVB’s Grant Advisory Committee. The CVB’s purpose is to increase tourism and economic activity in Newton through the promotion of visitor activities. To achieve this purpose, the CVB provides many promotional services and resources at no cost. When, however, a group needs support beyond CVB’s standard services, a request for promotional funding assistance can be made to the Grant Advisory Committee of the Newton CVB. “The grant program will take effect in January 2010,” said Linda Bacon, executive director of the Newton CVB. “Our initial plan is to give out $1,000 worth of grants in a year’s time with a maximum of $200 for each eligible applicant.” Grant requests will be considered based on their merit and the availability of funds. As the grant dollars are depleted, new applications will not be eligible for that calendar year. “The Newton CVB is anticipating there are a number of eligible organizations out there that want to sponsor an event or bring a group to Newton but just don’t have the funds to pull it off at this time,” Bacon said. “We’re hoping this will be another incentive for non-profits to take advantage of to help promote our community and is another way we can offer assistance to their efforts.” The Newton CVB Grant Program guidelines and application can be downloaded from CVB’s Web site at www.visitnewton.com or by stopping by the Newton CVB office at 113 First Ave. W. in Newton.
