On Oct. 17, the International Lions Clubs welcomed the Newton Lions Club into their membership. This club had been in the formation stage for the past four months and completed the requirements to be a local, community-based Lions Club.

Lions Club International is the largest service organization in the world with 1.3 million members. Even so, it is very much a local service club. First and foremost, the group looks to the community for support and to offer assistance.

Lions Clubs emphasized sight and sight problems first. The group also will assist people needing hearing assistance and seeks to become a beacon of public participation and assistance. The club will be led by President Chris Starett.

The group meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at Woodworks, 1711 N. 13th Ave. E., at 6:30 p.m.

The weather...
I love it, bring on the snow
I am so sick of winter, bring on the sunshine
I am ready to mow my lawn everyday, if that means no more snow this season
No opinion just dealing with what we are given
