Iowa’s Ferentz, Angerer semifinalists for awardsIOWA CITY (U of I) — Iowa linebacker Pat Angerer has been named a semifinalist for the 2009 Chuck Bednarik Award and coach Kirk Ferentz a semifinalist for the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award. The Bednarik Award goes to the nation’s top collegiate defensive player. The semifinalists were announced by the Maxwell Football Club of America. Angerer, a 6-foot-1, 235-pound senior from Bettendorf is Iowa’s leading tackler this season with 89 stops and an interception. He already has been named to CBSsports.com’s mid-season all-America team. Ferentz was national Coach of the Year following the 2002 season. His Hawkeye teams have won 13 straight games and are currently ranked fourth in the BCS standings. Comments
