The $43 million renovation project of the arena, including the building of a practice facility, has started. “You know, I have a view out my window, watching the trees come down,” Iowa men’s basketball coach Todd Lickliter said Wednesday at his weekly press conference. “It’s something we all admit is past due, but it’s something that is of the utmost importance.” The project for the 27-year-old arena includes the expansion of office space, locker rooms and workout areas for 20 of Iowa’s teams and the addition of a practice facility with two courts to ease congestion. “We’ve been working on this project for five years,” athletics director Gary Barta said. “It’s probably been needed for longer than that.” The project will be completed by the summer of 2011.
