Newton YMCA to have holiday incentive report card this winter

By Daily News Staff

The Newton YMCA is trying to offer many programs and opportunities for fitness-goers and non-fitness goers to lose weight and stay healthy this holiday season.

The latest opportunity will take place from Nov. 25 through Jan. 2 and it is the Newton YMCA’s new “Healthy Holiday Incentive Report Card.”

The cost is $20 and only members of the Newton YMCA are eligible to participate.

The report card is not complete until one racks up 800 points through various fitness activities in the gym. Upon completion, participants receive a T-shirt and the chance to win cash prizes if you are in the top three.

The point system varies depending on the workout. However, a 60-minute group exercise class earns a participant 25 points, while a 45-minute group exercise class is worth 20 points.

Also, a 60-minute boot camp class gets you 30 points, a 45-minute boot camp class earns you 25 points and Holiday Fitness Weeks is worth 75 points.

There are opportunities to gain points through the Cybex machines and weight room.

Plus, participants can earn 20 points for running/jogging a mile or 10 points for walking a mile.

A mile on the recumbent or stationary bikes also is worth five points.

Weigh-ins will take place Nov. 26 and either Jan. 2 or Jan. 4 at the front desk.

A maintained weight is worth 30 extra points, a gain in weight results in a subtraction of 15 points plus five points for every pound gained, and a loss in weight means 30 extra points plus a point for every pound lost.

For more information, contact Health and Wellness Director Rhonda Robson at the Newton YMCA at 792-4006.
