L-S volleyball garners honors for four playersBy Daily News StaffLynnville-Sully junior Tara Van Rees earned second-team South Iowa Cedar League honors and three other players were named honorable mention when all-conference teams were announced. Van Rees, a middle hitter, ended the season with 177 kills, 207 digs and served at an 85 percent success rate. She added 31 aces from behind the service line. For honorable mention nominations, that went to seniors Katelyn Van Wyk and Tessa Engle, and junior Josie Morris. Engle led the team with 43 blocks and 178 kills, along with collecting 76 digs and 56 service aces. Van Wyk led the Hawks with 269 digs this season at libero. At setter, Morris led the team with 412 assists and also dug out 89 balls. Serving-wise, Morris led the team with 90 aces, serving the ball at an 88 percent success rate. For Hodgeman, the honors were well-deserved for those four players. “Tara, Katelyn, Tessa and Josie were all key players on our team this year,” Lynnville-Sully coach Al Hodgeman said. “The success we achieved on the floor as well as off the floor this season certainly involved them and their ability to inspire and lead the rest of us. Their postseason honors are well deserved.” Both BGM and Sigourney tied for the conference title at 9-1, while North Mahaska, Iowa Valley and HLV came in with a tie for third. Lynnville-Sully — along with Belle Plaine and Tri-County — were tied for eighth out of 11 teams. Coach of the year for the conference was Dean Knight from BGM. The Bears collected four players on the first team, while Sigourney added four as well. Comments
