Newton Mayor Chaz Allen has proclaimed Oct. 31 as Kiwanis Peanut Day in Newton. The Newton Noon Kiwanis, Aktion Club and Golden K Kiwanis have raised thousands of dollars through fund-raising efforts to support the community’s young people. Kiwanis has been a service club in Newton for more than 85 years, enriching the lives of thousands of area youth. Pictured with Mayor Allen are (front row, from left) Misha Filson, Rita Baker, Tamara Lloyd, Edith Lloyd and Wayne Salyers. Back row: Delores Butler, Mary Ann Iske, Dave Crow, and Tom Lloyd. Kiwanians will be selling peanuts at both Wal-Mart entrances, Hy-Vee grocery entrance and the gas station, and at Fareway in Newton.
