Jasper County Pheasants Forever, along with volunteers from the Jasper County Conservation Board and the Iowa DNR, hosted their Second Annual Youth Mentored Hunt on Saturday. The hunt was at the Wild Feather Hunt Club, located near Baxter.
Pheasants Forever offered the free event to allow young adults an opportunity to take part in a safe and successful pheasant hunt.
Eleven students participated in the program, learning about safe firearm handling, shooting basics, ethics, and conservation laws.
Each participant also had an opportunity to practice shooting clay birds and then each of them headed out with Pheasants Forever mentors to try their luck with real birds.
In addition, students learned how to properly field dress and cook their pheasants and then tasted the final results.  Jasper County Pheasants Forever members said they were thrilled with the outcome of the day and have already began talking about next year’s event.
The Mentored Hunt is just one of many Pheasants Forever sponsored educational events in Jasper County.
