St. Stephen’s to host ‘Luther’

by Barry Hurto/Special to the Newton Daily News

Tonight at 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will be presenting a showing of the 1974 British film “Luther,” based on the controversial 1960 stage play by John Osborne (“Look Back in Anger”).

American actor Stacy Keach tackles the title role of Martin Luther, covering his rise from a novice cleric to a respectable university theologian, culminating in the events which result in the Protestant Reformation.  The esteemed supporting cast includes Patrick Magee, Hugh Griffith, Maurice Denham and Judi Dench.

The public is warmly invited to participate, and refreshments will be served.
