Tigerhawks take fifth place

GUTHRIE CENTER — Colfax-Mingo went 2-2 in the Guthrie Center Tournament on Saturday.

In match one, Exira came away with a 21-8, 17-21, 15-9 victory over the Tigerhawks. Brooke Berkey led the team with 10-for-10 serving and four setting assists, while Afton Vander Schel and Breanna Trainor each had three kills.

Vannessa Ginther led the team with five digs, while Vander Schel collected two digs.

After a loss, the Tigerhawks came back to win their first match of the year — a 21-18, 21-10 victory over Glidden-Ralston. Trainor had six kills, Berkey had six setting assists, Nicollette Husson collected three blocks and Ginther was 10-of-11 serving with an ace.

In the final match of pool play, Guthrie Center came away with a 21-12, 21-14 victory over Colfax-Mingo. Trainor had six kills and six digs, Berkey collected six assists, Hillarie Koenig added four blocks and Danielle Beals was 10-of-10 serving.

For the fifth place match, the Tigerhawks came away with a 25-20, 25-16 victory over West Central Valley. Ginther led the team with eight kills, Berkey had nine assists, Logan Wilson dug out three balls and was 15-of-16 serving with five aces.

Berkey also was 11-of-13 with two aces in the victory.

Colfax-Mingo (2-6) is back in action Tuesday at CMB.
