Harlan’s Hoch gives verbal to Hawkeyes

By Daily News Staff

The Iowa football and basketball teams received some big verbal commitments recently.

The Hawkeye football team landed one of the biggest instate recruits for 2010 as Harlan defensive end Matt Hoch pledged his allegiance to Iowa back on June 30.

Hoch is a three-star athlete who is ranked No. 73 in the nation at defensive end.

Hoch also received scholarship offers from Iowa State, Missouri and Stanford.

While Kirk Ferentz landed a big football recruit, basketball coach Todd Lickliter added two shooting guards to his 2010 class.

The Hawks got verbal commitments from Ben Brust and Roy Marble Jr. in back-to-back days last week.

Brust, a three-star shooting guard from Illinois, committed to Iowa on July 1.

Brust had other offers from Butler, Davidson and Valparaiso.

Marble Jr., the son of former Iowa Hawkeye great Roy Marble, is a two-star shooting guard from Michigan, who committed to Iowa on July 3.

Those two players join 6-foot-9 small forward Cody Larsen, who committed to Iowa last September.
