Pay increases amount to ‘trickle up’ economics
To the Editor,
On March 28, 2006, Jasper county voters approved a 1-cent increase in sales tax per dollar, which amounted to an additional 16.6 percent on then existing rates in many towns.
It is the height of folly to vote a tax increase on oneself, especially this most regressive of taxes.
Three years later in a dismal economic climate, political subdivisions have wealth to lavish unwarranted raises on their employees and themselves in the case of “officials.”
This is trickle-up economics. Taxing all to enrich a favored minority!
