Cardinals drop tough home game to Oskaloosa

By Daily News Staff

The Newton softball team had trouble with the bats and made some uncharacteristic mistakes in the field Wednesday against rival Oskaloosa.

The end result was a 3-1 loss to the Indians at home.

Oskaloosa scored two early runs in the second inning and then added a third run in the top of the sixth. Michaela Wood scored Newton’s lone run in the sixth inning.

“Oskaloosa played great ball tonight,” Newton coach Gary Grimes said. “We struggled with our bats. And we made some errors that we don’t usually make.”

Courtney Meyer took the loss in the circle as the team dropped to 18-10 on the year. They are now 10-3 in LHC play.

Tonight’s conference game against Norwalk at Berg Middle School begins at 7:30 p.m.
