Attempted stunt injures Newton teen

A 14-year-old Newton boy received minor injuries Wednesday after attempting to jump over a moving vehicle driven by another teenager.

Local authorities responded to a report of a pedestrian being hit by a car at 9:18 p.m. Wednesday in the Emerson Hough Elementary School parking lot. Upon arrival, officers determined Joshua D. Gearhart had attempted to jump over a 1998 Toyota Avalon as it was moving north at approximately 10 to 15 mph towards him in the school parking lot. While attempting the stunt, Gearhart lost his balance and landed on the roof of the vehicle, driven by 15-year-old Scott L. Isley of Newton, before falling off and hitting his head and knee on the pavement, according to police reports.

An ambulance was at the scene, but Gearhart was not transported for medical treatment. Isley’s vehicle sustained an estimated $50 damages, but no citations were issued in the incident.
