Newton City Council
The council will discuss the council vacancy due to the death of member Ron Foreman and the timeline for filling the position through a special election. Other agenda items include public hearings on a resolution accepting a purchase proposal for property at 2009 First Ave. E., a resolution approving a re-stated planned end result of a project for the Maytag downtown campus demolition activity and an ordinance amending the city’s official zoning map to rezone 801 Union Drive; consideration of an ordinance designating the names of East Fifth Street North and North 15th Avenue East for a new section of road; and consideration of resolutions approving the Newton Municipal Airport sign proposal, fixing a date for meetings on the issuance of general obligation bonds, approving the Newton Sanitary Landfill comprehensive plan and its submittal to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, ordering bids and approving plans and public hearings on the 2009 hot mix asphalt resurfacing program and a project at the landfill, and approving the 2009 revised ambulance fee schedule.

Jasper County Board of Supervisors
Agenda items include an ordinance establishing a signalized school crosswalk at East 124th Street South, resolutions concerning turns at the intersection of Highways 330 and F17 and establishing the right of way and fence rates for 2009, sign quotes, sign posts and anchors quotes, a tax sale update, a proposal for asbestos testing at the Jasper County Care Facility, a resolution approving the appointment of Deputy Sheriff Josh Britton, fireworks permits, an employee performance review on Congregate Meals Director Jean Morgan and approval of a liquor license for Baxter Fun Days.
