Raiders start big week with

win over Jefferson-Scranton

COLLINS — The CMB softball team got two hits and three runs from junior Abby Maher, four RBIs from senior Hannah Paul and Jordan Maher scored three runs as the Raiders dumped conference foe Jefferson-Scranton, 9-3, Monday in Collins.

The victory sets a new school best for wins in a season with 19 as the Raiders are now 19-6 overall and 11-3 in Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference play.

“Jefferson was without its starting pitcher so they were not the same team as earlier this season,” CMB coach Troy Houge said.

Sophomore Jessica Robinett earned the victory in the circle for CMB as she allowed two earned runs on six hits in seven innings. She also struck out five and walked four.

CMB got on the board in the second as freshman Katelyn Findlay singled and then scored on junior Emily McQuiston’s double. The Raiders took the lead for good in the third when Abby Maher led off with a triple and then scored after an error by Jefferson-Scranton. Jordan Maher, who walked in the inning, scored later on a wild pitch, and pinch runner Jessica Birchmier scored on an RBI fielder’s choice by Jen Coughenour.

The Raiders added two more runs in the fourth as they scored them both with two outs and with the help of another J-S miscue. Both Abby and Jordan Maher were plated in the inning following a two-run single by Paul. Paul added an RBI walk in the sixth and pinch hitter Ashley Fricke added an RBI hit by a pitch before Findlay collected an RBI single.

The Raiders continue their tough stretch tonight as they travel to PCM to take on the arch rival Mustangs. They host Class 2A No. 4 Bondurant-Farrar on Wednesday before hosting conference rival Colfax-Mingo on Thursday. Both home games will be played in Baxter beginning at 7:30 p.m.
