Team Trifecta wins second straight Hy-Vee Triathlon

By Daily News Staff

WEST DES MOINES — The Hy-Vee Triathlon featured nearly 28,000 spectators this weekend at Raccoon River Park in West Des Moines.

And several area athletes competed and found plenty of success.

Jasper County’s lone win came from Team Trifecta — a trio made up of Sarah Patterson (swim), Kelli Mente (bike) and Robyn Friedman (run) — as the squad finished in 2 hours, 6 minutes and 42 seconds, which was nearly 13 minutes better than second place. It was the second consecutive win for Trifecta at the Hy-Vee Triathlon.

Also competing was the coed relay team of Brad Patty, Chris Forsyth and Casey McDermott as their splash-pedal-run team scored a fifth-place finish with a time of 2:19:54. Mark Moss’ team — which was named Low-Vee, placed 74th overall in a time of 3:16:59.

Individual finishers who were in the upper half of their age division bracket included Matt Scotton and Jeff Burnett. Scotton was 70th out of 135 in the Men 40-44 category as he finished in 2:42:47. Burnett was 19th out of 50 in the Men 50-54 division, and he crossed in 2:48:59.

Orville Bunker competed in the Men 45-49 division and was 80th out of 87. His time was 3:28:26.
