Iowa Games sports deadlines approaching

AMES — Registration deadlines for the 2009 Summer Iowa Games are approaching for several sports.

Currently 8,900 athletes are registered to compete in the state’s largest amateur sports festival, with 95 of 99 Iowa counties represented.

Sports with a final online registration deadline of July 6 include:  3d archery*, archery*, badminton, basketball shooting, cross country*, cycling tour ride*, cycling time trial*, disc golf*, equestrian, fencing*, golf, horseshoes, judo*, skateboarding*, strongman*, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo*, tennis, track and field, triathlon and weightlifting.  Sports with an asterisk denote on-site registration will be available.

Several sports also have an early registration deadline of July 6. To receive the discount fee, athlete registrations must be postmarked or registered online on or by the July 6 deadline. These sports include:  baseball (adult), basketball 6 on 6, dodgeball, flag football, golf – two person best shot, kickball, midnight madness road race (5K and 10K), softball (adult), ultimate and wrestling.
