Prairie Days starts Friday

This year’s edition of Prairie Days in Prairie City, with the theme “Down on the Farm,” kicks off Friday evening with a pork supper on the square. At 6 p.m., don’t miss the Red Rock Riders horse drill team in action on the T-ball field east of the square. The evening’s entertainment, featuring Douglas Acres begins at 7 p.m. in the park, and the fire department’s water fights also begins at 7 p.m. in front of the post office.

On Saturday, the day starts with a fun run/walk at 7 a.m., beginning at the Prairie City Recreational Complex. Other events throughout the day include the Fifth Annual Uri Sellers Memorial Softball Tournament at the CIARAD complex, car and tractor shows around the square, a pie-eating contest, and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the middle school gym.

Afternoon entertainment is hypnotist Mike Foster in the square at 1 p.m. A parade will wind through town beginning at 6 p.m., and the evening’s entertainment will be the Eight-Track Band. The day concludes with fireworks at 10 p.m.

On Sunday, a community prayer walk will begin at 7 a.m. in the square, and the Odd Fellows will be serving a community breakfast from 7 to 9:30 a.m. as a fundraiser for next year’s Prairie Days.
