Book Review of the Week

Do you love cats? Even if you don’t, “Dewey” by Vicki Myron is likely to change your mind. Dewey Readmore Books (named for Melvil Dewey, creator of the Dewey Decimal System) was the much beloved, world-renowned library cat of Spencer.

Author Vicki Myron was the library director when Dewey was left in the book drop one cold January morning in 1988. Myron recounts how this special animal brought her staff and a town together as they struggled through the difficult farm crisis of the late 1980s. Dewey served as a library ambassador even though he didn’t leave the building.

When he passed away in 2006, the New York Times ran an obituary for him. This heartwarming book will appeal to anyone who loves animals, but to cat lovers in particular.
