No fireworks scheduled for Fourth of July

The City of Newton is reminding the public there will be no Independence Day fireworks display next month due to budgetary restrictions.

The city also included a list of alternative places to watch fireworks in lieu of a Newton display. Options include:

Prairie Meadows in Altoona on July 3 at 9:45 p.m., the Knoxville Raceway after races on July 3 and several locations on July 4 at dusk including Sully, best viewed from the ballpark or airstrip; Pella at East University and 240th Place; Grinnell at Ahrens Park and Marshalltown at the Marshall County Fairgrounds.
