Lynnville-Sully lands preschool grant

DES MOINES — Lynnville-Sully School District was awarded a $148,780 state grant this week to provide preschool for 43 local children. The grant program was established by the Legislature with a goal that nearly every Iowa four year old will have access to quality, affordable preschool.

“We know that preschool is a wise investment for us. Quality preschool improves the chances of success for our kids in school, reduces crime, saves the state money, and helps us create a highly-skilled workforce” said State Representative Paul Bell of Newton. “With support from educators and business leaders across Iowa, I’m proud we are taking another step to ensure every Iowa child has access to quality, affordable preschool.”

Awarded by the Iowa Department of Education, the grants announced this week will provide preschool for over 4,300 four-year-olds beginning this fall. The new preschool program is voluntary and it does not compete with existing private or public preschools. All school districts receiving grants this year will receive funds again in the future through the preschool aid formula.
